The Midlands State University touched a storm recently when they launched a Science Foundation programme similar to 'A' Level. This did not go down well with ZIMSEC which issued a strong response explaining the history and structure of High School leaving certificates in Zimbabwe including how the MSU were offside in that regard.
That aside, there seems to be a propensity for MSU to engage in 'parallel activities' as in the above A Level fiasco, the domain of ZIMSEC. MSU also began conducting last year if I am not mistaken a Mathematics Olympiad, competing against the one done jointly by the University of Zimbabwe and Old Mutual. On the other hand it might seem a good thing but I would favour a situation whereby these academic institutions would join hands than compete on these issues because more needs to be done to improve the dissemination of quality education to all the corners of Zimbabwe.
