I just watched the press conference given by South African President Jacob Zuma and the United States President Barack Obama in Pretoria. Of course, nothing new came out of the said press conference but i got some new perspectives on some issues. i have to admit Zuma did well in articulating his issues and answering the questions from the press. Obama was in his usual self. On the Zimbabwean issue, the emergence of a moderate Zuma, as compared to Thabo Mbeki (well this according to the west and western minded people) means that the US and like countries could not continue to apply excess pressure on South Africa to put pressure on the Zimbabwean leaders. over the years, the west has figured out that their view on the Zimbabwean opposition required some reality check hence they are now taking a more positive approach towards ZANU PF.On the trade relationship, the Obama did not dwell on the perceived unequal playing field between Africa and China
especially because the US is also a guilty actor.
