So the Afghan President has been receiving “no questioned asked” cash from the CIA, most probably for influence reasons. Though its something to be expected in Afghanistan, a country at war and with so much corruption at all levels of society, what’s interesting is the American equation. Publicly Americans make a noise about the level of corruption in Afghanistan saying that its a barrier for the development of Afghanistan. But all alone they have been practicing the same bribery they criticize publicly albeit under darkness.
The admission of Karzai about this infamous affair will shed light on the cozy relationship between the Americans and the Karzai government. This conflict has been going on for more than ten years and there appears no end in sight. The Americans and especially the Afghans have sacrificed their blood and money during this conflict. Now the question is, have the Americans benefited from this blunt bribery of Karzai and company?
Its difficult to answer because the negative are so great and its the same thing with the positives. What we should be asking ourselves is are the Americans also bribing the Taliban to come to the table for talks. It seems the so-called soft power of the Americans is using influence which is backed by money. Money which is financed from debt for sure. Anyway I hope the story develops more so that we can get more insight into the shenanigans happening between the US and the Karzai Administration. Bringing democracy to Afghanistan means a more open government should be in place and the foreign stakeholders in Afghanistan should not be worried at all.
