We need more research!

Zimbabwe has gone under massive transformation over the last 2 decades. From stability to a decade of economic turmoil. People and institutions were changed forever. But what's surprising is the lack of research about this crucial times. For a sustained recovery to take place, a comprehensive assessment of our past problems needs to be carried out to know the pitfalls one needs to avoid in the future.

Most of the research which is available is produced and sponsored by multi-lateral organisations such as the UN. I wouldn't expect innovative approaches to research from such organisations because they have their own preloaded objectives and any research they undertake has to conform to some of their aims. This is the same with corporate-led researches. It would be a different situation if more academic-led researches are available. This is because there is more flexibility and innovation in the approaches taken.

Lack of independent funding was the issue then, but what's the problem now? With the economy stabilizing, research grants should be flowing now. Therefore it is time for researchers out there (especially local ones) to tell us the Zimbabwean story as it is.
