Obituary: Bingu wa Mutharika.

Rest In Peace comrade President Professor Bingu wa Mutharika of The Republic of Malawi, who died on the 6th of April 2012 after suffering cardiac arrest. This is what Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe said about wa Mutharika "he dedicated his professional and political career to the cause of the continent and spent a great deal of time seeking ways to uplift Africans"

His innovative ways and strategies ensured his country to achieve high agriculture productivity and food security. His agricultural subsidy programs ensured a decline in hunger and an increase in rural incomes thereby reducing poverty. These were examples of people-centered leadership. For many years during his first term, Malawi achieved food surpluses.

Regionaly, he created possibilities for Africa's self-determination through greater subregional unity, integration and harmonised planning.

The former chairman of the African Union's legacy will be celebrated for many years to come. According to Rev. Charles Stith, an American diplomat "Mutharika was one of Africa's most courageous and conscientious leaders."
